| How to setup the Folding @ Home Console First, you need to acquire the latest Folding @ Home console version at http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html Once you have it downloaded, you must now setup it’s workspace. I create a folder in c:\program files\ called F@H. If you are folding using multiple cores, you should create a folder for each core (I use Core1 and Core2, so the directory looks like c:\program files\F@H\Core1\ or c:\program files\F@H\Core2\) Next, you copy the .exe file into the F@H directory (Or the respective Core directories if you are using multiple cores). Once the file is in place, go to your command prompt (Go to your start menu, select run, type cmd and hit enter) and navigate to the F@H folder. If you are folding using only one core, you would run the program first using the –config switch (or –configonly if you want to exit the core once you do the initial setup) by typing (using the name that was current at the writing of this guide for this example) fah504-console –config You can go to this post for the entire list of settings you will find in the console’s configuration options. Be SURE that if you intend to fold for Team Pimprig/PCApex, you absolutely NEED to put 596 in for the team number. If you are folding with multiple cores, for each of the cores you have you will run the configuration setup, setting the Machine ID number for each folder (core1 = 1, core2 = 2, etc.) Just make sure that if you are creating a shortcut for the multiple core runs that you have the -local switch put into the shortcut. You also need to use it when you start those programs in the command line. It makes sure that each program will only use the configuration file that is in the same directory as the program, ensuring that you won't get cross contamination on the work units. After you do the initial setup, if you have chosen to run the console as a service you should reboot so the service will start up cleanly. Hopefully this will help new folders who want to set up the program themselves, as well as providing a way of getting the newest console version installed while waiting for me to FINALLY get the Team Pimprig/PCApex specific installer FINISHED so GK can put it up for downloads. | Thanks for the recognition, guys. Just doing my best to lay things out for people until I get the new installer done. Time is the main issue right now, and it's getting eaten up more and more. *laughs* But I'll keep putting 5 - 10 minutes into the code when I can. | ||
